Build your franchise shortlist.

Start on a brand’s website. Review the details, keep their sources, and save a comparison you can return to.

Guide for version 1.2.0 · Updated October 31, 2026

Install the extension

Chrome Web Store publication is pending. A public store link is not available yet.

If you have the extension package, you can load it locally:

  1. Unzip the package into a folder you can keep on your computer.
  2. Open chrome://extensions in Chrome and turn on Developer mode.
  3. Choose Load unpacked and select the extracted folder containing the extension files.
  4. Use Chrome’s puzzle-piece menu to pin Franchise Compare & Research — by Pure Green.

To update a local installation, back up your research, replace the files in the same folder, and choose Reload on the extension’s card. Keep the same installation to retain its local storage.

Analyze a franchise website

  1. Open the page you want to research

A franchise, ownership, or investment page is a useful starting point. Open the extension and choose Analyze this page.

  2. Read the suggestions and evidence

A draft opens in the workspace. Review suggested investment ranges, franchise fees, royalties, marketing fees, liquid capital, and net worth requirements alongside quotes and source links. Training, support, and territory excerpts may also appear.

  3. Choose what to use

Select the suggestions you want and choose Use selected suggestions. This fills empty fields and keeps supporting evidence. It does not overwrite financial details you already entered.

To save a source without analysis, highlight a passage on the page and choose Save this page in the extension. It captures the title, URL, and highlighted text, or the page description when available.

Review and save a franchise

Check every figure, its conditions, and its source. Edit the franchise name and any financial fields, then add notes, questions, a target market, and a research status.

Source names, links, and retrieval dates stay with the record. Enter the publication date and your own review date separately when you know them. All financial fields use U.S. dollars.

Choose Save franchise to add the record to your shortlist. Suggestions alone do not save a franchise automatically. You can return to the record and edit it later.

Compare, export, and back up

  • Select Compare on two to four saved franchises to see their details, notes, questions, and sources side by side.
  • Choose Export CSV to open your research in a spreadsheet.
  • Choose Print to print the selected comparison or use Chrome’s Save as PDF option.
  • Choose Back up JSON to preserve your complete research. Keep that file somewhere you can find it.
  • Use Restore backup to merge a saved backup into another installation. Import brand data accepts a prepared, authorized dataset and skips franchise names already saved.

Your records stay in the Chrome profile where you saved them. They do not automatically sync between devices. Back up before uninstalling: uninstalling removes the extension’s local data. Exported files remain under your control.

Limits and common questions

Why are some fields empty?

Website extraction is best effort and primarily recognizes English financial labels. A field can remain empty because information is missing, ambiguous, in another currency, or presented in a format the extension cannot read. An empty field does not mean the brand charges no fee. Review the source and enter missing details manually.

Does it read the whole site or the latest FDD?

No. It reads the current page you choose and, when requested, up to four related public HTML pages per scan. It cannot read PDFs or text inside images. It has no bundled franchise catalog or FDD database, and it does not confirm that a website is current. Review important details against the brand’s current Franchise Disclosure Document.

Why does a related-page scan fail?

A page may require sign-in, redirect elsewhere, block automated requests, exceed the scan’s limits, or use unsupported content. Some pages load their details only after interaction. Open the page normally in Chrome and try Analyze this page, or enter the information manually. Denying site access leaves related-page checking unavailable.

How do I remove site access?

Open chrome://extensions, find the extension, and choose Details. Review and remove granted access under its site-access controls. Chrome’s wording can vary by version.

Is my research sent to Pure Green?

No saved research is sent to Pure Green. Optional Pure Green links open its website separately and identify the extension as the referral source. The extension has no analytics or advertising trackers. See the full privacy policy.
