Essential Detox Tips for a Successful Juice Cleanse Journey
So, you’ve decided to do a juice cleanse. Whether for weight loss or just to detox, you’ve been researching for weeks – planning everything in advance. You’ve read all the best guides. You’ve got your juices all picked out and ordered and have finally found the perfect few days to embark on this journey of health. How good, you think smugly, am I? How healthy am I going to feel when all this is all done… How wonderful is my body going to look and feel in just a few days…
And then it hits you. Am I really going to be able to live off just juice? What if I get hungry, or tired?
Panic sets in. What am I doing this for? Why was this ever a good idea? How can I possibly get myself out of this mess?
Don’t worry. We’ve got you. Cleansing can feel overwhelming at times – you are temporarily going without one of life’s most enjoyable staples (solid food) after all. If you are feeling overwhelmed or nervous, take a deep breath and check out these detox tips we’ve put together. From getting enough sleep to getting enough sunshine, here are some of our best tips to help get you through your next juice cleanse.
Incorporating these detox tips into your juice cleanse routine can significantly enhance the experience and effectiveness of your detox. One crucial tip is to stay well-hydrated throughout the cleanse. While juices provide some fluids, it’s essential to drink plenty of water to help flush toxins from your body and keep you hydrated. Another important aspect is to listen to your body. If you’re feeling fatigued or dizzy, it might be a sign that you need to adjust your cleanse, perhaps by including a small amount of solid healthy food like fruits or salads.
Gentle physical activities such as yoga or walking can also be beneficial during a cleanse, as they help stimulate circulation and lymphatic drainage, aiding the detoxification process. Remember, the goal of a detox is not just to eliminate toxins but also to rejuvenate and refresh your body and mind. Therefore, ensure you’re getting adequate rest and relaxation, as stress can counteract the benefits of a juice cleanse. By following these detox tips, you can make your juice cleanse a more enjoyable and healthful experience.
CLEANSE WITH A FRIEND
The best things in life are shared, right? While that might be true, it’s pretty much certain that when talking about challenges, there’s nothing like the support of a good friend. When it comes to juice cleanses, your biggest support network during your cleanse is going to be your friends and family. If you need a cheerleader or just a sympathetic ear, make sure you don’t undervalue the help that those around you can offer during this time.
One of the key detox tips for a successful juice cleanse is to have a cleansing buddy, as it can significantly enhance your experience. Sharing the journey with someone else not only provides moral support but also creates a sense of accountability. You can motivate each other to stick to the cleanse, share experiences, and even swap juice recipes. This camaraderie can make the process feel less daunting and more enjoyable.
Additionally, having someone to discuss the physical and emotional changes that occur during a cleanse can be reassuring. It helps to know that what you’re experiencing is normal and that you’re not alone in your detox journey. Furthermore, a cleansing buddy can be a source of encouragement and inspiration, especially during moments of weakness or temptation.
Together, you can celebrate milestones, share tips for managing cravings, and keep each other focused on the end goal. This shared commitment can make a significant difference in the success of your juice cleanse, turning a challenging endeavor into a rewarding and shared health adventure.
Better yet, next time you are thinking of doing a juice cleanse, call up your bestie and commit to doing one together! Doing a cleanse with another person is a completely different experience when compared to struggling alone. Having someone to share the detox journey with will help you in so many invaluable ways. Let’s check out some of the main reasons why having a cleansing buddy helps.
Having Someone to hold yourself Accountable to
If you struggle to self-motivate, having a friend to whom you’ve committed is a huge boon. You’ll have someone to run to when you want to wave the white flag and you’ll be able to offer each other support during the lows.
In addition to the camaraderie and support, another essential detox tip is to keep track of your progress and experiences during the cleanse. Documenting your journey with your friend can be incredibly motivating and insightful. You can keep a joint diary or even a digital blog where you both contribute daily updates, thoughts, and feelings.
This not only helps in monitoring your physical reactions and the changes you’re experiencing but also serves as a motivational tool to keep going. Seeing your progress over time can be incredibly rewarding and encouraging. Furthermore, this shared documentation can be a valuable resource for future cleanses, helping you to understand what works best for your body.
It’s a way to reflect on your journey, celebrate your achievements, and plan for even more successful detox experiences in the future.
You Can Swap Tips and Tricks
Encouragement is Everything
Feeling isolated or shut off? During cleansing, some of your regular activities might change. You might want to avoid temptations by keeping yourself away from your usual cafe haunt or avoiding certain activities. That’s where your cleansing buddy comes into it. You’ll have someone to exercise with, hang out with, or just pass the time without fear that you might end up being led into temptation.
Find yourself losing motivation? Sometimes the best trick is just getting back in touch with your body. Gentle exercise will help you during this time, relaxing your body – and your mind. Just remember – no one ever climbed Mt Everest mid juice cleanse.
While we don’t recommend heavy exertion or doing strenuous exercise during this time, sometimes a brisk walk or gentle cycle is all that your body needs. This is especially true if you are a person who usually works out pretty often anyway.
Consider this as a time to get back to basics and renew and refresh your body with some light exercises. Some activities that we’ve found are great include:
- Going for a gentle walk
- Cycling through the neighborhood
- Participating in a hatha yoga class
- Doing some calisthenics or stretches
- Following a dance tutorial online
DRINK ORGANIC JUICE
Remember – not all juices are created equally. Like all good things, if you want to ensure you are getting the most out of your juice cleanse you must be replenishing your empty body with healthy, nourishing juice. There’s just no point in emptying your body only to fill it with artificial, processed, sugary “fruit drinks”.
So, what should I look for when selecting a juice? Here at Pure Green, we always recommend choosing organic juices as far as possible. Juices made with organic ingredients have a ton of benefits. Let’s check out some of the main points here:
The majority of vegetables these days are grown on farms that use pesticides. Pesticides are pretty much super strong chemicals, used in the agricultural process to kill pests like insects and rats. Now does that sound like something you want for your healthy cleanse? I didn’t think so.
Organic juices are made from organic fresh fruits and vegetables grown without chemical pesticides so you don’t need to worry about the risks of pesticide exposure.
Fresher and Tastier
High Levels of Antioxidants
Organic produce has much higher levels of antioxidants when compared to its traditionally grown counterparts. Studies show that organic goods have about 20-40% more antioxidants on average. So what does this mean for me? Well, antioxidants fight against free radicals, protecting your body from cell damage and promoting repair. What better time could there be to load up on antioxidants than during a cleanse?
So, is organic everything? While organic produce is vital, here are some other things you should consider when choosing your juices.
Cold-pressed juice is made using a cold extraction method. You can read all about cold-pressing here, but basically, cold pressing is the best way of getting all the essential vitamins and minerals out of the fresh fruits and veggies and into the juice you’ll drink.
When you are juice cleansing it’s so important to load your body up with vitamins and minerals in the juice to flush out your toxins. That’s why we recommend only going for organic, cold-pressed juice during your cleanse.
Unpasteurized juice is best as it is the closest thing to fresh homemade juice. As it hasn’t been treated with heat, like cold pressing you know that none of the delicate vitamins, nutrients, or minerals have been spoiled. What you’ll be drinking is pure, unadulterated, healthy juice.
Look for cold-pressed, unpasteurized organic juice in the fresh juice (that’s the refrigerated section) of any larger grocery store. You may also like to try out that new local juice bar. Alternatively, check out our cold-pressed juices or cleanse range. Always organic – it’s made with about 5 pounds of organic produce in every bottle!
GET ENOUGH REST
When you’re juice cleansing it’s so important to remember to take the time to rest. Your body is super busy during this time – acting in overdrive to flush all the toxins from your body. One huge drawback of this is it can mess with your sleep cycle and you might end up feeling fatigued and lethargic.
Take this as an opportunity to listen to your body, and what it’s asking you for. You may end up finding your body begging for more sleep. Listen to it! Plan to go to bed an hour or so earlier each night of your cleanse, or be proactive and schedule taking mid-afternoon naps. Of course, this is why it’s best to plan carefully when you choose to take you cleanse. Siestas don’t work for every type of job or lifestyle. Forward-thinking is key, and choosing days when you will have time to rest up, such as over a long weekend, will go so far in ensuring you are cleansing isn’t just rejuvenating, but a rewarding experience as well.
In line with the importance of rest, another essential detox tip is to engage in activities that promote relaxation and stress reduction. During a juice cleanse, your body is working hard to detoxify, and high-stress levels can counteract this process. Incorporating calming activities like yoga, deep breathing exercises, or gentle stretching can significantly aid in relaxation and enhance the detoxification process.
It’s also beneficial to create a serene environment at home, perhaps with soothing music, dim lighting, or aromatherapy, to help you unwind and relax. Remember, mental and emotional well-being is just as important as physical health during a detox. Taking time for self-care activities, such as reading a book, enjoying a warm bath, or practicing mindfulness meditation, can further support your body’s efforts to detox and rejuvenate.
By prioritizing rest and relaxation, you ensure that your cleanse is not only effective in detoxifying your body but also in restoring your overall sense of well-being.
GET YOUR DOSE OF VITAMIN D
Don’t forget about the Sunshine Vitamin! So, you’re busy loading up your body with organic, cold-pressed juices. Refreshing and rejuvenating it with healthy, tasty juices full of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients – but one crucial Vitamin is missing… Vitamin D This little-understood Vitamin is made in our bodies after your skin is exposed to sunlight… and may be just what the doctor ordered if you are struggling during your cleanse.
Vitamin D helps our bodies in many ways. While being crucial for calcium management and healthy bone formation, Vitamin D plays a pretty big role in the battle against fatigue as well.
Feeling drained and fatigued are some of the worst side effects you might experience while cleansing. Your body is quite simply operating on a different level. Vitamin D may just be the boost you need to help get you through. So how do I get enough Vitamin D during my cleanse? It’s quite simple, spend some time in the sun! While there are food-based sources, most people can get all the Vitamin D their body needs from regular old-fashioned sunshine.
However, that’s not the case for everyone. Remember, you may not naturally be getting enough Vitamin D if you:
- Live in extreme latitudes
- Don’t have much opportunity to go outside
- Have darker skin
- Are over the age of 65
- Typically wear clothes that cover most of your skin
- Cleanse during winter
- Typically get your Vitamin D from food sources like eggs and fish
You may like to try boosting your Vitamin D intake during fasts. Either try a supplement or try to spend just a bit more time in the sun. Combine it with a bit of light exercise by going for a walk through the park or around your neighborhood. You’ll be surprised by just how good sunlight and fresh air alone can make you feel.
So let’s start detoxing! Don’t worry, it’s natural to feel a bit nervous about your cleanse. Breathe in, breathe out and remember these tips next time you are worried you won’t make it through. Remember, there’s no point jumping straight into the deep end. Take it slow and get yourself started with a one-day cleanse, before working your way up to longer detoxes.
