Community
Long before the cranes arrived, the blocks along East 4th Avenue held a Peoples Gas storage site and a run of industrial buildings, which is where Gasworx gets its name. Today roughly 50 acres on the southern edge of Ybor City are turning into apartments, offices, and a future park, and Pure Green Gasworx is coming soon to the middle of it, near 14th Street. Our juice bar will make superfood smoothies, acai bowls, and cold pressed juice to order for the new neighbors moving in. Fresh fruit makes a fine replacement for fuel tanks.
Ybor City has a habit of naming things after the people who built it. In the cigar factories that opened here in 1886, a lector sat above the rolling tables and read newspapers and novels aloud while hundreds of hands worked the leaf. Gasworx carries that memory forward: La Unión is named for the Afro-Cuban mutual aid society that once stood on this ground, and The Stevedore honors the longshoremen who worked Tampa's port. We like a neighborhood that remembers who came first.
From our door, 7th Avenue is about a six-minute walk north, and Centro Ybor is barely farther. The fare-free TECO Line Streetcar stops about seven minutes away on foot, so Channelside and the Florida Aquarium are an easy ride. On Saturdays, the Ybor City Saturday Market fills Centennial Park with local growers and makers, roughly a twelve-minute walk from our counter. Students at the HCC Ybor City campus are even closer.
PURE GREEN MIGHT BE A GLOBAL NAME,
BUT TRUST US, OUR HEART'S LOCAL.
EVERY BLEND, EVERY BOWL, EVERY JUICE IS LIKE
A HIGH-FIVE TO GASWORX'S SPIRIT. HANDPICKED
INGREDIENTS, AND A TOUCH OF LOCAL FLAIR,
MAKE EVERY SIP AND BITE AN ABSOLUTE DELIGHT.
Looking for acai bowls in Tampa, FL, or a breakfast in Ybor City that will not slow you down? Each acai bowl starts with a thick base of blended acai, then gets piled high at the counter with sliced banana, berries, granola, and nut butter. Smoothies are blended the moment you order, with nothing premade and nothing sitting in a warmer. Grab a bottle of cold pressed juice for the walk back to your desk, or a second smoothie for whoever is waiting at the streetcar stop. Healthy food in Tampa should be this easy to find.
A first visit works like the lector's opening page. You pick a story off the menu board, the team reads it back while they build it, and by the last sip you already know what you want next time. Some guests work through the whole menu one chapter at a time. Others find a favorite and reread it every morning, and we will happily keep the bookmark.
Gasworx is filling up with new neighbors from across the country, and Ybor has always been good at making newcomers feel at home. The district grew out of Cuban, Spanish, Italian, German, and Jewish families who built social clubs, bakeries, and cafes to look after one another. We want to earn a small place in that tradition as an everyday stop for the nurse coming off shift, the developer between meetings, and the family walking back from the market.
So watch the Knight Parade roll down 7th Avenue, ride the streetcar in from Channelside, or wrap up the workday in the new offices down the block, then come find us on 4th Avenue for a cold pressed juice. Pure Green Gasworx opens soon, the newest page in Ybor's long story. Pull up a chair, because the reading is about to start!
