The crossing bells at the MLK Jr. Station have been keeping time on this block for years, and Chestnut hears them the way other neighborhoods hear a church clock. A train pulls out, Alexander Avenue settles back under its trees, and the morning carries on. Pure Green MLK sits two minutes from that platform on East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, a juice bar making superfood smoothies, acai bowls, and cold pressed juice in Austin, TX. Come by before the next train and the day starts ahead.
Chestnut and Blackland are old Austin, neighborhoods of porches and front yards and families who have held the same addresses for generations. A few blocks north on Manor Road the restaurants fill up early and the VORTEX keeps its stage lit well past dark. Sundays pull traffic toward Mueller, where the Texas Farmers' Market runs ten to two at the Branch Park Pavilion and hardly anybody leaves after one lap. None of this arrived recently. The east side has been good at showing up for itself for a very long time.
We work best inside a plan you already have. The Red Line puts you downtown in a few minutes, and that ride improves considerably when your hands are not empty. A loop through the Boggy Creek Greenbelt, the shaded stretch along the water just south of us, earns an acai bowl on the way back. Givens District Park is forty acres over on East 12th with a rebuilt pool, and a Saturday there runs smoother with a smoothie riding along. Headed west toward the UT campus, grab something before the lanes thicken.

The Platform building on East MLK Jr. Boulevard has a juice bar on its ground floor now, a two-minute walk up from the station in Chestnut. Acai bowls and cold pressed juice in Austin, TX get made the moment you order them. The ingredient list stays short and everything on it grew somewhere. Anything claiming to be good for you should still be worth finishing, so nothing here gets made out of sight.
Our counter works like a porch that happens to have blenders. Somebody is always mid-story, the machines cover the pauses, and nobody counts your minutes. Some mornings you leave before the next train has cleared the platform. Other mornings you take the window seat and let it run long, which is the correct use of a Saturday in Chestnut.
Pure Green exists to make communities healthier, and in Chestnut that turns into something modest and specific. It looks like a walk down the block instead of a drive-through line, a commute that starts green, a Sunday market haul that ends with cold pressed juice in the fridge. People here were looking after each other long before we unlocked the door, from the yards of Blackland to the ball fields at Givens. We would like to be one more good habit on a street that has never been short of them.
Come see it on an ordinary weekday, while Chestnut is just going about its business. The blenders are running, the counter is open, and your first superfood smoothie takes about as long as the walk up from Alexander Avenue. Manor Road will still be there at dinner. Take the seat by the window and stay as long as the afternoon allows!
